The Denver Anarchist Black Cross has created a new fund for the support of members of social justice movements in need of emergency monetary relief. The DABC Mutual Aid Fund will serve as a collection of money that can be used to provide assistance to members of social justice movements that find themselves in dire need.
While many involved in social justice movements typically think of the work of Anarchist Black Cross chapters to be mainly contained to support for political and class war prisoners, historically, Anarchist Black Cross Chapters have focused on a wide array of programs and projects to aid in the defense of social movements. While we will continue our work with supporting the prisoners of our movements and helping defend against state repression, we also seek to directly support comrades in the movement in need. We feel that the longevity of social movements is inherently linked to their ability to provide all levels of support to movement members.
We envision this fund being used in a variety of emergencies and situations; from helping with medical emergencies, to helping pay for groceries, from helping with legal fees to providing rent and bill assistance.
We do not wish to try to replace any sort of revolutionary expropriation of resources or funds that could help provide similar relief in these situations. However, we understand that we can’t always rely on these methods of supporting our needs and that far too often members of our movement that face financial troubles cannot rely on fellow members of their movements or communities for relief. We also know that while many funds exist to provide legal support against state repression, few exist to provide other financial relief to those that need it.

All decisions about allocation of funds will be made by the Denver Anarchist Black Cross Collective, with a priority based on those requests from within the Denver area. The fund exists to serve those active in social justice movements and community struggles, as we don’t have the resources to support every single person out there in need of funds.
